The Celtic Martins will display their musical and Irish step-dancing talents at Ephrata’s Eicher Arts Center on June 12 starting at 4 p.m., capping the Eicher’s annual Ice Cream Sunday Day.
Starting at 2 that afternoon, the Eicher will begin offering hot dogs and ice cream sundaes at no charge at the Eicher House, 409 Cocalico St. in Ephrata Borough’s Grater Park, and Joyful Canvas will be providing face painting and balloon animal creations there. At 2:30 p.m. Penn’s Woods Puppet Theater will present a “Jack and the Beanstalk” puppet show.
Weather permitting, the Celtic Martins will perform on the deck of the Eicher and the attendees at the annual event will be outside. In the event of extreme weather the event will be moved inside the Eicher House. The public is urged to bring folding chairs and protective face masks with them.p
The Eicher offers a series of admission-free Sunday afternoon entertainment shows for the public, and Its annual event featuring ice cream sundaes often attracts the largest crowd of the series.
Donations to the non-profit Eicher Arts Center, Inc. will be accepted. That group was formed some four decades ago to help save and find new uses for the historic Eicher House and the smaller Eicher Sisters House nearby. (Built some 290 years ago, the Sisters House may be Ephrata’s oldest building.)
The musical Martin family developed their talents in Lebanon County and has been entertaining at Irish, Celtic and Americana festivals for years, wowing crowds at the Eicher House on more than one occasion.
Penn’s Woods Puppet Theater, which will be presenting “Jack and the Beanstalk” on June 12, garnered applause from children and adults with its “Rumpelstilskin” at Eicher’s Ice Cream Sundae Day in 2021.
Rebekah of Joyful Canvas will be helping to make the Eicher Arts Center’s Ice Cream Sundae Day a fun day for youngsters with her face painting and balloon animal skills.
“The big part of it,” Rebekah said, “is making all the kids happy and excited.”
